Evelyn’s story

My name is Evelyn. My kiddos are Zenen, Seija and Rohke.

I grew up a foster care ward, and after a turbulent divorce and health issues led to us losing our housing, where we couch hopped and lived in the van, eventually we found CARE. We’ve now been at Swallow Apartments for almost 9 years, the longest we’ve lived anywhere! It’s our chance to build up a fruitful life together.

CARE truly cares, and I can testify to the ways being here has enhanced our lives, and those of our peers here.

This life stabilizing opportunity has brought much peace of mind and a chance for us to focus on growth and healing. I’ve been able to return to schooling, volunteering and steady work, and my children are thriving at their respective schools. We have been blessed with many lifelong friendships within our community and we have deep gratitude for the supportive staff and partners.  There are so many amenities and activities to participate in, and you’ll always find us outside enjoying time with our neighbors.

Now, being able to be a part of the Resident Council, I can continue to grow and showcase my abilities towards things that matter, contributing to the greater good of others as well. I love helping other people connect to each other and to resources and community happenings, co-creating events that help us gather with and inspire one another, and offering up my time and attention as a liaison for our fellow CARE families.

CARE truly cares, and I can testify to the ways being here has enhanced our lives, and those of our peers here. Needs and questions are addressed fairly and promptly. Our apartment feels wonderful to be in, because it’s well cared for and has all we need, and it’s close to all the places we need to be. Everyone involved has the best interests of the residents in mind, and is kind and thoughtful.  People can excel with this type of wrap around service, and that is evident in the mission CARE has. It is wonderful to be a part of it all, living our values and upholding one another.

I look forward to meeting and journeying with you all. Warm regards!
